Findings from Oak Island’s latest tree canopy assessment showed some improvement over the last eight years while also identifying a few areas of concern.
PlanIt Geo, a global urban forestry consulting and software development firm, conducted the assessment using data collected between 2014 and 2022. Using remote sensing GIS technology, the firm obtained source and aerial imagery that was then compared to similar imagery from 2014. Andy Evans, a GIS manager with PlanIt Geo, presented the findings to Oak Island Town Council at the board’s Nov. 14 meeting.
